At a recent workshop, the facilitator posed the question, “Are you creating a legacy?” There was a pause as people thought about this. A few responded “no” but most realized fairly quickly that yes, we are creating a legacy… at our work, with our friends and family, in our community and therefore, of our lives. We may not be intentional about it but perhaps it is a bit like John Lennon’s famous statement, “Life is what happens when you are making plans.”
We are all granted the same 24 hours. And we have considerable freedom in what we do with it. Do you “spend” 24 hours or do you “invest” your time?
Some clients have told me it’s not that simple. We “have” to work or run our business; we are tied up from Monday through Friday and weekend demands include errands and household chores. Yet, how we spend our work hours and free time defines our legacy. You will be remembered. How do you want to be remembered?
I believe that education and employment empower women and that empowering women, changes the world. My dream is to support thousands of girls and women across the globe, by enabling access to education and women’s businesses.
I help individuals, leadership teams and organizations to be more successful and use my earnings to give back to others. This clarity guides me in my decisions and choices and contributes to a meaningful purpose.
Picture a celebration in the future. Maybe a milestone birthday – your 40th, your 50th, maybe your 90th; or maybe your retirement party. Who is in attendance? What are they saying about you? What stories are they telling? What is your legacy?
