If you are anything like me, it sometimes requires repeated messages to recall wisdom already gained. So it is with doing less to accomplish more
A few weeks ago I pulled some muscles in my back, which deterred me from some of the outdoor activities I was planning for my holiday. While frustrating, it probably provided me with some much-needed downtime following months of business travel and growth.
A whip smart client, Dean of Education at an accredited university recently experienced some medical issues that derailed him for a few weeks. He was unable to read so no books, no electronics, no television. Rest and reflection. When we conducted a day of strategic planning with his leadership team, he was enthused and filled with creative ideas, conceived while he was laid up. He said the disconnected time was so beneficial to his thinking and creativity that we would all benefit from an electronics hiatus.
Our breaks need not be extreme. Even 10 minutes or 1 hour sabbaticals have proven physiological and mental benefits. My back is better and I have retained what I know are beneficial practices – 10 minute daily mediation and scheduled book-writing sessions.
What is one action you can take over the next week to foster your creativity? You will make better decisions, foster innovation and accomplish more while doing less.
