Recently I flew to San Jose del Cabo, having departed from Calgary’s international terminal. The new terminal and hotel opened in 2017 and is filled with natural light. While YYC served a record number of passengers in 2017, the newest concourse and terminal is not yet at capacity as it was planned and constructed for 30-year capacity.
Prior to Calgary, I spent most of my life in southwestern Ontario. I contrast the long view taken at YYC with the long overdue infrastructure required in Greater Toronto contributing to congested freeways and public transit as well as the astronomical backlog of over $30B to address Canada’s fastest growing city.
In our work and our personal lives we benefit from straddling today and the future. When in the present moment we can experience all the joy that life has to offer and more readily draw on our judgment and intuition to make the best decisions. Then, as we set to achieve our goals for the future, if armed with the knowledge of the risks, we often achieve more than we believed possible.
My most successful clients regularly assess and balance their present reality and future opportunities. There is always a risk of falling, but we cannot soar if we remain on the ground.
“Things come that we would never have predicted for ourselves or even guessed at. And yet they change us forever.”
